Creating and sharing Contact Groups

Learn how to create and share Contact Groups in Mixmax and import contacts in bulk from CSV files or Salesforce.

Updated over a week ago

Please note that this version of Mixmax Contacts will soon be deprecated because we are building a new Contacts page in Mixmax.

At the moment, you can still switch between the current and new versions of the Contacts page. Please note that once the transition to the new Contacts page is complete, your existing Contact Groups will also be deprecated. You can use the Download as CSV option to save your Contacts Groups data outside of Mixmax. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.

Contact groups make it easy to email the same group of people over and over. You can share contact groups with others, so your Workspace or your Group can easily keep everyone in the loop. You can edit existing groups from your Contacts page or create a new Contact Group by clicking on the (+) folder icon next to the New Contact button.

You can add multiple contacts at once by pasting a list of email addresses into the Search contacts box. The email addresses can be separated by spaces or commas. To get you started, we've already imported your Google Contact Groups — you'll see them in your contact groups in the Mixmax dashboard. If you made changes to your Google Contact Groups, you can re-sync contacts from Google Contacts to Mixmax.

You can easily create a new Contact Group or add users to an existing group by importing a CSV or Salesforce contact list. Here’s how to import each type of file.

Import a list to your Contact Group

To import a list of emails to your Contact Group, go to your Contacts page and do the following:

  1. Create a new group by selecting the (+) button directly to the right of the New Contact button. Or, add to an existing group by selecting that group:

2. Once inside the group, select Import from the top right-hand corner.

3. In the top left-hand corner of the new pop-up window, you can choose to import a list from either a Salesforce list or a CSV file.

4. Edit your data before finalizing import. Edit the text in each cell, or add/delete columns (except for the Email column, which you cannot delete).

5. Finalize your import by clicking the Import button.

Importing from a CSV File

When importing contacts from a CSV file, the most important thing is to make sure that the column containing email addresses is named correctly.

The column header for email addresses must be Email (no quotes, not case sensitive).

If your CSV does not include this column header, the file will not be imported.

Follow CSV file best practices to make sure your file meets the guidelines for a friendly import.

Importing from a Salesforce List

To import a Salesforce list, you’ll need to connect your Salesforce account to your Mixmax settings.

Once synced, you’ll be able to import any of your pre-existing Salesforce lists.

Share a Contact Group

It's easy to share contacts with your Workspace Group and with individual people. Click Share this group in the top-right corner of your Contacts page. To share with your Group, use the Groups tab.

Sharing contact list

To share with individuals, simply type their email address in the search box.

Sharing contact list with an individual

When you share with a group or an individual, you can choose whether to give them read-only or read-write permission.
