Extension conflicts

This article will help you troubleshoot extension conflicts with Mixmax.

Updated over a week ago

The Mixmax Chrome extension is not supported for Outlook-based users. Instead, Outlook-based users can install the Mixmax Add-in for Outlook. To learn more about the Mixmax integration with Outlook, check out How to use Outlook with Mixmax.

If Chrome or Gmail seems slow, buttons aren't showing up where you expect them to, or you get a notification that there's an extension conflict, you may have an extension that interferes with Mixmax.

The primary solution is to delete the conflicting extension. Don't worry, though! Mixmax has functionality that replaces most of them. :) If we don't, let us know.

Here's how to identify and disable conflicting extensions and a couple of workaround solutions.

Where to find your extensions

View your extensions list by typing chrome://extensions into your address bar. You'll be working with this list as you troubleshoot.

You can disable extensions by changing the toggle switch to off (grey when disabled). You can delete extensions by clicking the Remove button.

Google Chrome extensions

If your extensions list looks different, you are using an outdated version of Chrome; check out how to update Chrome.

Extensions known to conflict with Mixmax

In general, extensions that modify Gmail can conflict with Mixmax since Mixmax also modifies Gmail. Below are some examples of extensions that are known to conflict with Mixmax. If you have any of them, disable or delete them, and performance should improve:

  • Cirrus

  • Mailtrack

  • Privacy Badger

  • Salesflare

  • NordVPN with CyberSec option enabled (disabling CyberSec resolves this conflict)

  • Rebrandly

  • GoodTime

  • Virtru Email Protection (Virtru Gmail)

This is not an exhaustive list. Conflicts can happen with other extensions not listed here.

How to do an incognito window test

To see if there's an extension conflict, try opening Mixmax in an incognito browser window β€” if everything works in incognito, then there is a conflicting extension. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Under the Mixmax extension, click the Details button.

  2. Enable the toggle switch to Allow in incognito. Make sure none of your other extensions have this option enabled.

  3. Go to the File menu (the three vertical dots in the top right corner) and choose New Incognito Window, then visit Gmail (or Google Inbox) in the browser window that appears.

  4. Log back into Mixmax when prompted.

  5. Check if Mixmax is working correctly now.

There's a conflicting extension - now what?

  1. Disable all your extensions: Toggle the Enable switch next to them (grey when disabled).

  2. Add them back one by one until you find the conflict - the extension that causes problems. Make sure to hard refresh your Gmail window each time you re-enable an extension by holding down Control/Command + R.

  3. Disable or delete the conflicting extension.

What if that did not work

Take a screenshot of your extensions (if you have lots of extensions, take several screenshots), and send it to our support team so we can investigate.

But I still want to use that extension!

There are a couple of workaround solutions if you still want to use the conflicting extension:

  1. Create a separate Chrome profile without the Mixmax extension installed. This is where you could enable conflicting extensions. You can easily access the separate profiles by creating desktop shortcuts for each.

  2. Re-install Mixmax so that Mixmax is the extension that was installed most recently. Chrome automatically updates your extensions without your knowledge, so you may need to repeat this process whenever the conflicting extension gets updated. Here's how to re-install Mixmax:

    1. Go to chrome://extensions and click the trash can icon next to Mixmax.

    2. Visit and click Install for Free.

    3. Follow the installation instructions.
