If you have multiple Gmail/Mixmax accounts and constantly switch between them, we advise setting up a separate Google Chrome profile for each account to avoid confusion and potential issues. If you do sign in to more than one Mixmax account in the same Chrome profile, you can choose which account Mixmax uses in both the Mixmax web app and the Mixmax Chrome extension — see Switching between Mixmax accounts below.
Setting up multiple Chrome profiles
When you open different Mixmax accounts in separate Chrome profiles, it helps to avoid potential issues, including the following:
A logout loop caused by logging in and out of different Gmail/Mixmax accounts from the same Chrome profile.
Authentication and logout issues when you use multiple accounts from the same Chrome profile for delegated sending.
Best practice is to create a separate Google Chrome profile for each Mixmax account. Check out this Google support article to learn how to set up a Google Chrome profile.
Example: "Tony Stark" wants to manage Mixmax and Gmail accounts for some of the "Avengers."
Let's say, "Tony Stark" needs to set up a Mixmax account for "Captain America" and "Thor" so he can use delegated sending to send emails from his Mixmax account but using their email addresses.
This is how he should set this up:
Create his own Chrome profile and sign in to Mixmax and Gmail there.
Next, create a new Chrome profile for "Captain America" and sign in to Mixmax and Gmail there. He should also get delegation permission from "Captain America."
Repeat the steps above for "Thor."
Switching between Mixmax accounts
If you're signed in to more than one Mixmax account in the same Chrome profile, you can switch between them in two places: the Mixmax web app and the Mixmax Chrome extension.
In the Mixmax web app
Click your avatar photo in the upper right corner, and then select one of the multiple Mixmax accounts you're currently logged into:
To write a new message, click the Compose button in the top left corner of the Mixmax dashboard:
Clicking the Compose button launches the Gmail compose window in a separate pop-up:
In the Mixmax Chrome extension
Outside of Gmail, the Mixmax extension uses the account you choose for:
Clicking the Mixmax icon in your Chrome toolbar to write a new email.
Email (mailto:) and phone (tel:) links on other websites.
Mixmax in Salesforce, including call buttons.
To switch accounts:
Right-click the Mixmax icon in your Chrome toolbar and then go to Default account. If you don't see it, click the Extensions icon (puzzle piece) and pin Mixmax.
Select the account you want to use.
The change applies right away, including in tabs you already have open. Open Salesforce tabs reload automatically, so they pick up the new account.
The list includes every Mixmax account you're signed in to in this Chrome profile, even accounts you haven't used with the extension yet.
Choosing a default account and accounts for specific tasks
In the Mixmax extension settings, you can set a default account and, if you need to, use a different account for specific tasks:
Right-click the Mixmax icon in your Chrome toolbar and select Options.
You will be taken to the Mixmax Chrome extension Options setting. From here, you can choose your default account. Mixmax uses it for everything outside Gmail unless you pick a different account for a specific task.
Optionally, you can choose a different account for any of the ones below. If you don't see these options, click the Use a different account for some actions button.
Writing email: composing new emails outside Gmail, such as from email links on other websites.
Making calls: phone links and call buttons, including call buttons inside Salesforce.
Salesforce: everything else Mixmax does in Salesforce.
Most people only need to set a default account. Your choices are saved and apply right away.
How Mixmax chooses an account in Gmail
Inside Gmail, Mixmax always uses the Mixmax account that matches the Gmail account open in that tab. The account you choose in the extension doesn't change this, so you can keep different Gmail accounts open in different tabs and each one uses its own Mixmax account.
Signed-out accounts
If your session for an account has expired, it appears as Signed out, and you can't select it. If that account was your default, the list will tell you. To use it again, sign back in to that account in the Mixmax web app.
Things to know
Microsoft accounts: Mixmax only opens email links from other websites when the account chosen for writing email is a Google account. If it's a Microsoft account, email links open as they normally would in your browser.
Calling: Mixmax only places calls from accounts that have Mixmax Calling. If you choose an account for making calls that you haven't used with the extension yet, Mixmax can't check whether it has Calling, so it won't warn you — the call just won't start.
If you want to use multiple email aliases for a single Gmail account — rather than switching between accounts — here's how to add email addresses and aliases to Mixmax.
